Welcome from the Program Directors
Our Mission
We are a dynamic, learner-centered program focusing on our residents' individual needs and goals to produce excellent physicians.
Welcome,
It is our pleasure to introduce to you the Michigan State University-Sparrow Hospital Internal Medicine Residency Program. Our residency enjoys full ACGME and AOA accreditation status, a reflection of our well-structured curriculum and commitment to training residents who will constantly pursue excellence. We strive to provide a challenging yet supportive atmosphere, where autonomy and supervision are in dynamic balance. The MSU/Sparrow partnership makes for a truly energizing residency experience, fueled by a proactive team spirit.
Our residents have an outstanding record of success in achieving their goals, including subspecialty and primary care careers. The internal medicine curriculum is nationally acclaimed. To prepare you for success in your chosen career, we have created a flexible program with a wide range of elective training opportunities. Residents have the opportunity to pursue research, rotate on subspecialty services, and/or pursue non-medicine specialty rotations. We have numerous volunteer community teaching faculty who support your primary care experiences at their ambulatory offices.
Michigan State University is located in East Lansing, Michigan and is one of the largest universities in the United States. With over 40,000 students, the campus supports a significant international population of faculty, students, and support personnel. Sparrow Hospital is located in neighboring Lansing, Michigan, home to the Michigan state capital, serving both the Lansing community and rural farming populations in the greater mid-Michigan area. The extensive socioeconomic diversity of the combined MSU/Sparrow and Lansing-East Lansing population supports a stimulating training experience with broad diagnostic challenges. Also, our faculty is committed to educational excellence having received both national and regional awards for teaching. The Michigan State University College of Human Medicine is nationally recognized as a leader in medical education, and as a leading primary care medical school. Sparrrow Hospital has been recognized as a top 100 Hospital for patient care.
Our residency program is committed to your success. We maintain a supportive small-group atmosphere that is well suited to creating strong bonds between residents, faculty, and patients. Whatever your professional goals may be, at MSU and Sparrow you will complete your transformation from “student” to “physician” while forming friendships that will last a lifetime.
We hope you enjoy the information available on our website. Do not hesitate to contact us for any questions.
